Health & Nutrition

We have a positive approach to keeping children healthy at the Village Nursery. Our commitment to this has been recognised by Ofsted as Outstanding as well as our recent award from Trafford as an Early Years Healthy Setting and not to mention our 5-star rating from Trafford Council Environmental Health. We take our role seriously in encouraging children to develop healthy habits and to make healthy choices and enjoy working with parents to promote this.
There are no pre-prepared or ready meals offered to our nursery children. Each meal is freshly prepared and cooked daily by Lorraine (Aunty Laney!), our nursery cook. This enables us to cater easily for most special dietary requirements. Below is a typical weeks menu:
Breakfast: A selection of cereals, hot buttered toast and milk.
| Lunch | Pudding | Tea | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | Beef stew & herby dumplings with creamy mash | Fresh fruit salad | Sardines on toast |
| Tuesday | Smoked haddock & leak pie | Prunes & apricot with Greek yoghurt | Lentil soup with crusty bread |
| Wednesday | Homemade lamb meatballs in tomato sauce with spaghetti | Semolina | Salmon cucumber sandwiches on wholemeal bread |
| Thursday | Creamy chicken and leek with sage mash | Feel good muffin | French stick pizza |
| Friday | Carribean chicken curry with rice | Mixed berry tarts | Assorted sandwiches |
When the time arrives for weaning, we will take our lead from you. We always have available fresh fruit and vegetables for purees as well as a healthy and varied selection of finger foods. Water or milk is offered continuously to children throughout the day, as well as at meal-times. If you are breastfeeding your baby and would like to visit nursery to do so, you are welcome at any time.
